One of the most influential people in my art career was a military veteran. A few years ago in honor of that beloved family member, I began giving flag cases to the families of deceased soldiers. I remember the pride of my own family receiving the flag that represented my loved ones years of service to our country. You could literally see it on their faces. It impacted me so much that I realized I wanted to honor other soldiers. I didn't know how but I knew it would involve the flag, a symbol of the best this country has to offer. My solution came in the form of a flag case.
My thought process was this: When honorably discharged soldiers pass away and receive their military burial, they generally receive a folded flag. While families often realize that their loved one will receive the flag, they are usually so busy paying for funeral expenses, that a flag is not the first expense they feel they have to address. It is my honor to surprise soldiers families with this token of my appreciation and respect. I have had the honor to watch families pose with the cases, put them in places of honor in their homes, cry over them and every other display of emotion possible. I am honored to play a part, but now I need your help. Many of the first cases came out of my paycheck. I am looking for donations of unused/unwrapped/undamaged donations of flag cases I can provide to families. My goal is to collect 1,000 cases. While I don't know every place that sells them, I know many artists are familiar with Michaels and I know they carry them as well as many frame shops and some craft stores. Thank you in advance for your support.
